Who We Are
Just Think teaches young people to understand, evaluate, and create media messages.
We deliver vital programs that foster critical thinking and creative media
production, believing that the independent voices of youth can powerfully
impact local and global communities.
Founded in 1995 as a concerned response to the ever-increasing deluge of messages youth receive from television, radio, film, print media, electronic games, and the Internet, Just Think teaches young people media literacy skills for the 21st century. We have been successfully creating and delivering in-school, after school and online media arts and technology education locally, nationally and internationally for eight years.
Just Think is a non-censorship organization. Our programs help students and teachers become aware of the choices they can make in their own interpretation and evaluation of the media around them. Just Think promotes media literacy as a key means of countering media stereotyping. This approach encourages openness and objectivity and fosters tolerance, understanding, and respect.
Just Think targets under-resourced populations from low-income areas. Our programs are designed for students ages 8 to 18; educational institutions serving youth; and teachers, community leaders, and parents. Of the hundreds of students who have completed our core media education programs in the U.S., 35% were African American, 25% Latino, 20% Asian American, 10% Caucasian, and 10% other ethnic groups.
